Police have registered a case against B. Gopalakrishnan, BJP State Vice President and NDA candidate for the Guruvayur constituency, over his controversial remarks. The case has been filed at the Guruvayur Temple Police Station.

The action follows statements made by Gopalakrishnan questioning why, over the past 50 years, Guruvayur has not elected an MLA who believes in Guruvayurappan. He also alleged that both the Left and Right fronts have consistently elected candidates who are “against Guruvayur.”

Complaints against the remarks were filed by both the LDF and UDF before the Chief Electoral Officer. Based on these complaints, the Chief Electoral Officer sought a report from the District Collector. Acting on the report, that a case be registered.

The case was filed after finding that the remarks violated the Model Code of Conduct during the election period and were aimed at creating communal divisions and disturbing religious harmony.

The case has been registered under Section 192 of the BNS and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act. Police have also removed the video containing the alleged hate speech from social media platforms.
