Thrissur: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Thrissur City police seized more than 3,000 litres of spirit from Kaalathode. The spirit was recovered from a rented house and a pickup vehicle parked near the house.
The raid was conducted based on confidential information received by the Thrissur City DANSAF team. One person has been taken into custody in connection with the seizure. He has been identified as Ajay Suresh, a native of Kunnathangadi, who was allegedly working as the driver of the pickup vehicle.
The house had reportedly been taken on rent in the name of Noushad, a native of Vadanappally.

The seizure was carried out jointly by the DANSAF team and the Mannuthy police as part of the special inspections being conducted by the district police ahead of Onam and under the State Government’s Operation Toofan initiative.
Mannuthy Inspector Biju C.V. said the operation helped prevent a potentially serious tragedy. He said large quantities of spirit and other intoxicating substances could be stockpiled in different locations during the festival season and potentially lead to a major liquor-related disaster.
Further investigation is underway.
