A fire broke out at a petrol pump near the KSRTC Bus Stand in Thrissur after a migrant worker allegedly attempted to light a cigarette in an area affected by a gas leak.
According to preliminary information, a gas leak had developed in the section supplying fuel to the pump on the previous day. Unaware of the leak, the worker lit a cigarette, triggering a fire.
The flames were brought under control quickly, preventing the incident from escalating. However, officials were unable to immediately rectify the gas leak.
The worker sustained minor burn injuries in the incident and received treatment.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and taking steps to repair the leak and ensure safety at the petrol pump.
