Guruvayur: A 65-year-old woman was found tied and hanging upside down inside a well at Nenmini in Guruvayoor. The deceased has been identified as Santhanavalli (65), a native of Villadam House in Chelakkara. Police have taken Suresh, a native of Perumbavoor, into custody in connection with the incident.
According to the police, Santhanavalli had arrived in Guruvayoor a few days ago, where she became acquainted with Suresh. As she had sustained a leg injury, Suresh reportedly helped her seek medical treatment. After being discharged from the hospital, he allegedly took her to his rented house at Nenmini.
Police said the two consumed alcohol together at the rented house on the previous day. During questioning, Suresh allegedly told investigators that Santhanavalli died while they were engaged in sexual intercourse after drinking.
Believing she was dead, Suresh allegedly tied a rope to her leg, fastened a stone around her neck, and lowered her headfirst into a nearby well. He is also accused of taking away her gold ornaments.
The incident came to light after Suresh allegedly disclosed the crime to another friend while they were drinking together in Guruvayoor. He reportedly sought the friend’s help to sell the stolen jewellery. The friend then alerted the police.
Following the tip-off, Guruvayoor police conducted a search at the location, recovered the body from the well, and took Suresh into custody.
Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination. Additional charges are expected to be added against the accused based on the autopsy findings.
