Thrissur: The prime accused in the murder of a man who was brutally assaulted at a suspected brothel in Thrissur has been arrested. The accused, Noor Alam, a native of Assam, was apprehended from Assam by a special investigation team led by the East Police Station Circle Inspector.
The victim was identified as Dhanpat Naik, a native of Odisha. Earlier, six people—four men and two women—had been arrested in connection with the case.
The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. on June 18 at a rented house on Korappath Lane in Thrissur city, where the alleged brothel was operating. According to police, Dhanpat Naik and a friend had visited the premises. After engaging in sexual services, Dhanpat allegedly complained about the poor quality of the service, leading to an argument over payment between him and those running the establishment.
The dispute soon escalated into a violent assault. Police said Dhanpat was brutally beaten, including with a metal bangle-like object. He sustained critical injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, the prime accused, Noor Alam, fled to Assam. He was tracked down and arrested by the investigating team.
With Noor Alam’s arrest, the total number of accused arrested in the case has risen to seven.
